A3 COMMUTER DEADHEADING ARBITRATION DECISION
APFA received the Arbitrator’s decision on the Presidential Grievance challenging the Company’s failure to provide positive space travel for commuters electing to deadhead to their commuter cities after working the last live leg of a trip. Unfortunately, the Arbitrator denied the grievance.
This means that Flight Attendants who elect to deadhead to their commuter city (rather than to base) after the last live leg of a trip under JCBA Section 16.H.3 will continue to receive A-12 status, as they do today. This decision only applies to Section 16.H.3, which is the only time the Company gives deadheading Flight Attendants A-12 status.
APFA System Board members disagreed with the arbitrator and filed a separate dissenting opinion. Click here for the arbitrator’s decision and APFA’s dissent.
At arbitration, APFA exposed many problems with the Company’s treatment of commuters deadheading under Section 16.H.3. While we are disappointed with the ultimate outcome, APFA is proud of the case we put on and of our witnesses and representatives who took part in putting this arbitration together.
In Unity,
APFA National Vice President
