6.05.20 – ORD Base Brief
Friday, June 5, 2020
ORD Flight Attendants,
We are in sad and unprecedented times. Our city is just beginning to emerge from the shelter in place orders due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and we are plunged into civil unrest after the wrongful death of George Floyd. Your APFA leaders are taking a stand against racial injustice. – Standing Up to Racial Injustices: A Call to Action
In light of recent protests, public transportation between the airport and many areas surrounding the city center has been limited or non-existent at various times. Flight Service has committed to working on a case-by-case basis with Flight Attendants impacted. Please contact your Flight Service Manager (FSM) with any concerns.
We applaud our Flight Attendants who engage in peaceful protests. We applaud our Flight Attendants who help their communities clean up and rebuild after senseless violence and destruction. Stay strong Chicago. Stay safe.
Temperature Checks
As of Thursday, June 4th, temperature checks for Flight Attendants and AA employees in ORD are now required to enter the workplace. Stations will be set up near the KCM entry point, and on the K19 ramp level.
A fever of 100.4 or higher is indicative of illness. If you register a temperature of 100.4 or higher, you will automatically receive a re-test at the KCM portal. If your second test registers 100.4 or higher, you will receive a third test after a 15-minute waiting period. If your temperature continues to register at 100.4 or higher, you will not be permitted to report for duty.
APFA has ensured that you will not accrue attendance points as a result of an elevated temperature reading.

Unemployment Benefits While on PVLOA
APFA has added a new resource for Flight Attendants who took the PVLOA and are looking for more information about unemployment benefits. Click Here for the new APFA.org unemployment benefits resource page may be found.
We continue to work with AA Flight Service and APFA HDQ to make sure you have the most up-to-date information on COVID-19. Please click the picture above and on APFA.org for the latest updates. The Company will continue to cap passenger load at 85% through June. If you have an issue commuting due to the restriction, please reach out to your FSM. Monitor your MobileCCI messages for any changes to Company procedures.
Virtual Support Sessions for Stress and Anxiety
The AA/APFA Critical Response Team is actively conducting virtual support sessions for Flight Attendants. This is a great positive approach to dealing with the fears, stress and anxiety of the world we are living in. To sign up please call the CIRT Peer Support line 800-998-8194. – A Virtual View; While Quarantined..
Professional Standards
When you have a workplace issue, please make your first call for assistance to the ORD Base Professional Standards Representative. We believe the peer-to-peer approach to conflict resolution is highly effective. It is also preferable to a solution than involving Management. When the Company becomes involved, it can compound the problem. Jillian Bocenda is our Professional Standards Representative. She can be reached at 847-828-1431 or [email protected].
July 2020 ORD Allocations
The July 2020 Allocation and Staffing calls were held this week. We were pleased that the Company committed to work within the same parameters for building sequences that were in place for June bid month. Total flying hours for July have increased to 50,832, in comparison to 36,999 for June. Turn volume has increased for July to 43.8%, in comparison to 30.3% for June. This is at the expense of the 3-day sequences. In July we will have 18.3% 3-day trips, whereas in June we had 30.1% 3-day trips. We will keep an eye on that number in order to keep trip types balanced. We will have some ODANs in July, compared to having none for the June bid month. While perhaps not unexpected, we were not given any advance notice that ATH, DUB and BCN were not going to begin in July. On the other hand, LHR Flight 86 will operate every day beginning on July 5th.
July Bidding Timelines
Thank you for your patience during these turbulent times. Things are changing daily. Please stay up-to-date by reading the APFA Hotlines and MobileCCI messages. As always, we remain available to you for questions. Be kind to one another, and stay safe.
