6.07.20 – ORD Base Brief – Sunday, June 7, 2020

ORD Flight Attendants,
As your Chicago Base President, to say I am outraged over the senseless deaths of Black people is an understatement. I wish the world were better. However, it is evident racism is alive and well in our country and workplace. It is not just the killings. Blatant racist remarks and veiled ones must end! To move forward and better understand one another, the complicated and sometimes uncomfortable conversations must begin!
As your Chicago Base Vice President and a woman of color, I stand against racial discrimination, inequality, and social injustice! Racism has again raised its ugly head, but our nation is coming together to stomp it down. As I watch the peaceful protests taking place in our country and around the world, my heart leaps for joy seeing hands of all colors, joining together, and uniting. Simultaneously, my eyes fill with tears because it has taken the senseless killings of George Floyd (5/25/20), Breonna Taylor (3/13/20), Ahmaud Arbery (2/23/20) and countless other Black people’s lives to ignite “the need for change.”
As ORD-Based Flight Attendants, we are comprised of different races, religions, genders, and sexual orientations. We embrace you and admire our varying hues, shapes, and sizes. We celebrate our differences because being different is not a detriment.
It is our honor to represent and support you. When you feel you have no voice, you have us. When you think you are not heard, we hear you. We all have the right to come to work feeling supported, valued, and safe!
In Solidarity,
Susan Wroble
