A Message to Raleigh-Durham Flight Attendants

Raleigh-Durham Flight Attendants,

Wednesday, July 1st was an incredibly difficult day for Flight Attendants at American Airlines. The announcement of the intent to close the Raleigh-Durham and St. Louis crew bases was devastating. The news takes some time to digest, but we wanted you to hear from us sooner rather than later so that you know that you will be able to count on a tremendous APFA support system.

RDU Base President Louise Sullivan and Vice President Jill Kelso have been fantastic advocates for your base, and we intend to stand beside them throughout this entire process. While the transition of RDU from a crew base to a satellite base is an imperfect solution to a difficult situation, we are pleased that there will still be opportunities to originate trips from RDU.

We know that you will have many questions on contractual language pertaining to a base closure, and we will offer as much support as needed. In the coming months, National President Julie Hedrick plans to visit RDU to help with transition questions and planning and will coordinate with Louise and Jill to find a time that would be most workable for all of you.

We know that Raleigh-Durham is a close-knit, professional group, and you’ve fostered strong relationships with each other as well as your London Heathrow passengers over the years. We are thankful for your service and stand ready to support you in any way possible.
