House, Senate, White House: Negotiate a Relief Bill ASAP
APFA has called on our leaders in Washington to resume negotiations on COVID-19 relief legislation immediately. We are fighting to extend the Payroll Support Program—we are fighting for our jobs—and it is urgent. APFA and our Union partners have worked hard to secure support from the House, Senate, and the White House for this aviation lifeline. But now we need Congress to negotiate a stimulus bill so that the Payroll Support Program’s six-month extension has a way to pass before time runs out.
As we end this week, politicians remain at an impasse over another coronavirus relief bill. It is important to remember that this bill is far from dead. Although the Senate has adjourned, both sides are prepared to return next week and vote, should a deal on a stimulus package be reached.
Hundreds of thousands of aviation workers are counting on this extension. We are frustrated by negotiations that have stalled, but we need to keep up the pressure. Congress listens to their constituents. Call your Representatives every day. Tie up the phone lines. We hear everywhere on Capitol Hill that your calls are working! We can only get this done if we keep up the pressure.
Example Script:
Hi, I am an American Airlines Flight Attendant, an APFA Union member, and your constituent. My job is at risk. Congress agrees that the extension of the aviation Payroll Support Program is necessary, but we cannot get it extended unless Congressional leaders negotiate and pass a stimulus bill immediately.
This program has been my lifeline, but if Congress does not extend the Payroll Support Program now, US aviation workers like me will lose their jobs on October 1st.
The entire US aviation community is standing together to support a clean extension of the Payroll Support Program, but we must act quickly.
