8.27.20 – APFA ORD Base Brief – Thursday, August 27, 2020
Thursday, August 27, 2020
ORD Flight Attendants,
We know the base is still reeling over Tuesday’s involuntary staffing reduction announcement by the Company. The 8,099 Flight Attendant furlough number was very sobering. Certainly not the outcome we wanted to see after months of negotiating numerous ways to mitigate the overage. The APFA Government Affairs Team, along with the other Unions, continues the battle in Washington to get an extension of the Payroll Support Program (PSP). We are not giving up the fight! Please reach out to your Congressional Representatives today by clicking here.
The week has been bittersweet for Flight Attendants that chose the Voluntary Early Out Program option. Many of our friends and co-workers are retiring without the usual celebratory send-off. We will remember the years of fun layovers and shared laughs. Thank you for your years of service and support of APFA. We wish you all the best in your next adventures.
With a possible furlough on the horizon, APFA will do everything we can to support our Flight Attendants. APFA.org has newly created furlough documents along with a Q&A to help guide you thru the process. Click here for more information.
The focus these past months has been on Voluntary Leaves, Early Out and Furloughs. You are probably asking what about the Flight Attendants who continue to fly through the pandemic, perhaps working out of necessity or the inability to hold a paid leave. We hold you in the highest regard. We recognize that you are the reason this airline continues to operate. The world is very different and, at times, scary. We have experienced it firsthand. Your health and safety are top priorities, and your Union will continue the fight to keep you safe and preserve quality of life.
In these stressful times, know that you are not alone. Melinda Canaday is the ORD Team Base Coordinator for the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). Her team along with the APFA EAP are here to support you. The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 800-998-8194. In addition, the APFA EAP Department can be reached at 817-540-0108 ext. 8701.
Thank you ORD Flight Attendants for your strength and resolve during these last few crazy months and the months ahead. Things continue to change at a rapid pace. Please keep up-to-date with all APFA Hotlines and mobileCCI messages. Be kind to one another, and stay safe!
