Allocations Information
While we are losing some IPD markets through February, our domestic routes have increased, and we went up in flight hours for December. For November, we were 160,136, and for December, we are currently at 171,800 hours. That is an increase of 11,664 hours.
Our block hours are down 49.4% year over year at DFW and 55.4% systemwide. The airline is flying just a little more than half its schedule compared to December 2019. December’s operation will resemble November’s, with reduced flying before the schedule change on December 17 and an increase in flying after, meaning that the schedule will be bottom heavy. This is not acceptable nor a “Quality of Life” for the Flight Attendant.
The flying adjustments were also considered with bank cancellations throughout the month and Christmas and New Year’s operational changes. We requested flexible trips for December, emphasizing turns and two-day trips. However, much to our displeasure, they have decreased turns and have increased 4-days.
To keep the synthetic time down and maintain the planned line average, the allocations department decided to mix wide-body and narrow-body flying in the 4FA solution. Bid positions for these trips will be 1-4; however, a wide-body aircraft will be scheduled on one or more legs. Flight Attendants will also switch from positions 1-4 to 5-8 on some of these pairings and mixed crew bases may also occur. We voiced our opposition to these pairings and the new programming changes. We stressed that the current work environment on the aircraft is challenging, and significant programming changes, especially during a holiday month, are insensitive and disrespectful. We strongly expressed our displeasure of the mixture of wide-bodies with narrow-bodies and brought our concerns about these pairings when they encounter weather or mechanical delays.
We are incredibly frustrated and disgusted that these pairings are such that they are working those who are on property to the bone. Unfortunately, the sit times have not been reduced, along with the long duty days and flight times. While their “numbers” look good on paper, we reminded them that those “numbers” are actual Flight Attendants. Our concern is the rise of exposure, fatigue, inadvertent slide deployments/doors remaining armed, and misconnections that may arise, with an increase of sick calls and red flag opened daily.
Bottom line, when you bid, double check what you are waiving. While these sequences are built within the contract, we want to ensure that you know what you should expect and bid accordingly.
