ACTION ALERT – Payroll Support Program Legislation

Congress will soon vote on a bipartisan, bicameral emergency pandemic relief package. Because of your tireless efforts, an extension of the Payroll Support Program (PSP) is included in the proposed legislation. We are optimistic, but our activism cannot stop here. NOW is when we call our elected leaders to urge them to vote YES on this bill, which will provide much-needed relief to so many Americans.

We expect the PSP to contain $15B for airline workers over four months (December – March) and would require furloughed airline workers to be recalled and restored. More details will follow on what this will look like for our Flight Attendants upon passage.

We cannot take anything for granted until Congress passes this bill, and the President signs it into law. But aviation workers have never been closer to securing the PSP. We would not be this close without your persistence and dedication. Let’s push this over the finish line together.

Here is a sample script to use in your calls and emails:

Hello, my name is ______ and I am an American Airlines Flight Attendant and APFA union member. My colleagues and I have been on the frontline of this pandemic since Day 1, but for the past two and a half months, thousands of us have been disconnected from our jobs and healthcare. Please pass emergency relief that includes extending the aviation Payroll Support Program.

For this pandemic to end, the aviation industry must be prepared to distribute the vaccine. Airline industry employment cannot simply be brought back overnight. This is why it is essential that the Payroll Support Program is extended now. A strong aviation industry is the economic driver we will need to build back our economy. NOW is the time to invest in the jobs that will keep the industry and the economy strong. Thank you for supporting aviation workers like me.

In Solidarity,
