Allocations Information

Each month, we provide feedback to the allocations department regarding pairings for review. We addressed long duty days with short layovers for February, lengthy sit/connect times, decreased turns, and an increase in four-day pairings. We provided a detailed list of pairings for modification and were successful in improving several trips. We also provided data regarding the percentage of domestic/NIPD pairings with layovers twelve hours or less (38%) and duty days scheduled for twelve hours or greater (18%). We consider these numbers unacceptable, especially during a global pandemic. Base leadership will continue to advocate for programming improvements to provide a better quality of life for our workgroup.

As stated, sit/connect times continue to be high for February. Allocations programs the optimizer with a 75 to 80-minute minimum connect time on domestic flights at DFW. As a result, there are more long connections (sit time) as crews must wait for the next bank of flying. The pull-down in the schedule and bank cancellations on certain days of the week can also contribute to lengthy sit/connect times. We continue to voice our displeasure regarding this issue and have asked for programming adjustments to limit sit/connect times to one duty period.

The schedule change on February 11th and the President’s Day weekend may require more coverage needed in the second half of the month. Many pairings originate on the schedule change, which in turn will increase operational flying.

STL will become DFW’s second satellite base in March. For February, STL Flight Attendants will be commuting to DFW. Base leadership voiced their concern that only three mainline jets and a few American Eagle flights will operate between DFW and STL. The lack of capacity is a significant commuting concern and may prove difficult for a base of 300 employees.

Allocations did build several pairings with STL layovers (30+hours) for interested crew members. DFW was allocated 188,617 pay hours for February, an increase of 12,528 hours from January. AUS was assigned 839 pay hours, a decrease of 175 hours from January. We addressed that the hours are heavy on the weekend and that this was not acceptable.

Block hours are down 43.2% year over year at DFW and 53.8% systemwide. The airline is flying a little more than half its schedule compared to February 2020.
