APFA Diversity and Inclusion Committee

APFA has vocally supported equality and racial diversity both in our workplace and in the communities in which we reside. All too often, we continue to witness Systemic Racism, Implicit Bias, and violence towards the Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. From the senseless killings of Black members of our community, including George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, to the most recent racially motivated verbal altercations occurring this week on hotel shuttles and various flights into and out of the Washington, D.C. area, we still have much work to do.

In a hotline dated June 2, 2020, APFA Leadership committed to continuing the conversation on racial injustice. We also announced creating a Diversity and Inclusion Committee to ensure that this Union solidifies its position at the forefront of racial equality and diversity.

On October 27, 2020, at the APFA Fall Board of Directors Meeting, the APFA Board unanimously passed a resolution that guides the creation and makeup of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee:

• The Committee shall consist of one (1) current member of the voting Board of Directors selected by such members, and three (3) interested and qualified APFA Members in good standing chosen among a pool of candidates chosen by the National Officers.
• The Committee will meet to decide on a Chairperson among the Committee.
• The term of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee Members shall run concurrently with the term of the National Chairs.

We continue to stand together with our Sister and Brother Unions and our communities in which we live to stand against hate, violence, and racism.
