4.08.21 – APFA ORD Base Brief – May 2021 Allocations
Thursday, April 8, 2021
Hello ORD Flight Attendants,
We hope this finds you well and enjoying some glimpses of the sun and warmer weather. These are the highlights from this week’s Staffing and Allocation calls.
Recall of Flight Attendants
A warm welcome to the last 1795 of recalled Flight Attendants returning systemwide in May, including 409 to ORD. It is great to have everyone back and we are happy to see so many new faces.
CTA Reminder
Many Flight Attendants utilize the CTA Blue line train for transportation to and from O’Hare. There is an airport surcharge of $5.00 for non-employees leaving the airport.  Be sure to register your Ventra card as an airport employee to take advantage of the discounted surcharge price of $2.50. See the K19 MOD to have your account added to the Ventra list. You can also call the general line at (773) 686-7858 to be added to the list.
Allocations
The systemwide job hours continue to increase month over month. ORD May 108,771 versus April 88,034 and March 64,325. MSP May 1463 versus April 1,266. If these numbers hold and continue to increase, we are definitely moving in the right direction.
On the call this week, we addressed the lengthy sit times that continue to be built in the sequences. We realize many factors impact sit, but will continue to advocate for more reasonable sit times.
The total Reserve number is a little higher than we like. The Company attributes the increase partially due to high sick/pandemic removals and 5 weekends in May.
Finding the right trip length balance is always a priority. The ORD trip distribution for May matches closely with the systemwide distribution. ODANs jumped to 15.4 starts per day versus 2.4 in April. This drove a higher % increase in 2-days. We will keep an eye on that.
Job Hours ORD: 108,771 (May 2021) vs. 88,034 (April 2021)
Job Hours MSP: 1,463 (May 2021) vs. 1,266 (April 2021)
Remaining May 2021 Bidding Timelines
Thank you for your hard work and commitment to safety. We remain available for questions and feedback. Be kind to one another. Take care and stay safe.
