Allocations Information
Once again, we are excited to welcome back our last group of furloughed Flight Attendants. DFW will receive 232 Flight Attendants; overall, 1,795 furloughed crew members will be reporting to designated bases on May 02. A total of 7,900 furloughed Flight Attendants will have returned since March 1, 2021. We look forward to seeing our fellow brothers and sisters back out on the line.
Optimizer programming remained unchanged for May. However, DFW did see some differences in our pairings. While turn percentages for May have increased, many of the turns are problematic; four-leg turns have increased, and excessive sit time is prevalent. Many pairings are low in time, working a disproportionate number of legs for minimal hours.
The base continues to have a minimum 80-minute connection time which can cause crews to have to wait until the next bank to resume flying. Excessive sit/connect times, low trip values, and long duty days with short layovers have been ongoing issues contributing to base leadership consistently asking for improvements in trip construction.
ODANs have increased significantly for May. Some Flight Attendants enjoy the flexibility these pairings provide to help balance work/life obligations. We will monitor ODAN desirability in May to determine if the increase is popular or if the base needs to reduce allocated hours.
The airline continues to expand its schedule as demand for flying has increased substantially. The base can expect new flying opportunities in May, with some seasonal routes returning and implementing new routes throughout our network. DFW will see AMS coming back. Â FCO will be reduced from 7 days a week to 4 days a week, and GRU reducing from 7 days down to 3 days a week. LHR is still one day a week from DFW; however, SEA-LHR will be on Wednesday only.
American has shown strength in domestic and short-haul international bookings. Long-haul flying remains unpredictable due to governmental pandemic protocols frequently changing, often after PBS awards. We continue to work with the company to ensure we have the latest information on cancellations and PBS bidding reflects timely operational updates.
DFW was allocated 287,389 pay hours for May, an additional 10,539 hours from April. AUS satellite assigned hours increased by 507, and STL satellite allotted hours decreased by 195. STL had requested an increase in block hours, but optimizer software was unsuccessful in meeting the targeted increase. Systemwide hours have reached a new high of over one million hours for May (1,055,150). Last year’s hours were scheduled at 431,126. The airline is flying 66% of its block hours compared to May 2019.
