EVLOA Recalls

There have been reports about American cancelling all of the Extended Voluntary Leaves of Absence (EVLOA’s) and returning Flight Attendants during the months of November, December and January. The Company informed APFA that they have plans to cancel leaves, but have provided limited details on how many, and have not provided a definitive timeline. We assume the Company anticipates a need for more staffing beginning with the November and December holiday season.

The EVLOA Letter of Agreement outlines the process for Flight Attendants returning early from an EVLOA:

5. If the Company determines they need more Flight Attendants than anticipated during the term of EVLOA, they will meet and confer with APFA regarding options. For operational need, the Company may cancel or reduce the duration of an EVLOA with at least 60 days’ notice to APFA and the impacted Flight Attendant(s). If the Company cancels or reduces any of the EVLOA, Flight Attendant(s) on an EVLOA will be offered return to work dates in occupational seniority order and drafted back to work in reverse occupational seniority order.

As soon as we receive any concrete information on EVLOA early returns, we will pass the information along. Our number one concern is to ensure Flight Attendants on an EVLOA have as much time as possible to make important personal decisions about returning to American.
