Negotiations Update #3
Negotiations to amend our Contract will recommence on Monday, August 9th through Wednesday, August 11th. Our initial discussions will focus on closing out sections of the Agreement under discussion when negotiations paused in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis.
On Monday, we will first be discussing Seniority, Charters, and Crew Accommodations. Later in the week, we will also be discussing Moving Expenses, Uniforms, General, CRAF, and Probation. These sections were negotiated prior to COVID-19, so we hope to build on these discussions and reach agreements on these sections. Our goal is to move through these sections in August and September.
One of the hot issues to be discussed next week in the Crew Accommodations section will be the failure of management to provide hotels promptly. It is utterly unacceptable for any Flight Attendant to be rescheduled or be stuck out of base without a hotel room ready upon arrival.
Last week, APFA filed a Presidential Grievance on the topic, concurrently with APA, to demand immediate solutions to the problem. This grievance demands immediate steps to resolve the issues, and discussions are ongoing with management to resolve the situation.
Beyond immediate relief next week, we will be seeking strong contract language to ensure these rooms are provided. We will release more details of the proposal and discussion after presenting it to management at our negotiation sessions next week.
New Survey Coming Soon
We will be conducting a new survey which we will put out later in August. We have completed three previous surveys. Given that we are returning to the table after a pause, we believe it is essential to get updated input from the membership on concerns and priorities. This is one of your opportunities to give the negotiations team direction and input, so we hope you participate.
Contract Action Team
We are putting together a Contract Action Team that includes members at all bases who want to help in the fight for the contract we deserve. The team will consist of a core group of activists in every base and will soon call on all Flight Attendants to sign up to become Contract Action Team Members to help inform flying partners and participate in actions supporting our bargaining demands. Please stay tuned for more information.
