Allocations Information

November has three schedule changes that will impact flying. At the beginning of the month, flying is pulled down for two weeks. The second schedule change on November 18 introduces the Thanksgiving Holiday adjustments. Flying is increased in many markets the week before and after Thanksgiving Day. Some pairings may have longer layovers due to the holiday adjustments. The last schedule change on December 1 will pull the schedule down again for the start of December. Some Flight Attendants may hold “bottom heavy” schedules for November due to the concentration of flying at the end of the month.

DFW has a variety of bank cancellations throughout the month that may cause fluctuations in flying patterns. November’s PBS cover sheet will provide bank cancellation information. The company-maintained optimizer programming changes from October.

DFW did see improvements in trip construction for November. Turns have increased with several high time turns returning. Domestic and NIPD wide body flying has increased; legs per day have decreased, with 76% of pairings working two legs or less per day. Four-day trips have decreased slightly, and duty days working over twelve hours have remained low.

Last month, the Company implemented the crew hub transit initiative at DFW. The goal of the co-pairing initiative is to improve crew reliability, especially during irregular operations. Most narrow-body crews transiting through DFW and CLT will be co-paired. We had hoped that co-pairing would reduce sit/connect times, but unfortunately, they have increased for November. Other concerns include three-day pairings worth minimal pay, trips with excessive sit/connect times, commutable four-day trips and redeye pairings. We will continue to analyze recent optimizer programming changes and the effect on DFW’s pairings.

DFW was allocated 342,388 hours for November, an increase of 7,797 hours from October. AUS satellite base was given 1,480 hours, a decrease of 37 hours, and STL was assigned 4,439 hours, a reduction of 569 from October. American is flying 85% of its block hours compared to November 2019.
