11.04.21 – APFA ORD Base Brief – November 4, 2021
Thursday, November 4, 2021
Buckle up! The next two months are looking like we will have a rough end to the year! The December Staffing and Allocation calls took place yesterday. While we expected the usual holiday increase in Reserve numbers and increased line average, the December numbers we received were eye-opening.
The Company claims they are reacting to what they have seen recently (high Reserve sick calls) and need to protect the operation. ORD stated on the call that we are being set up for failure. We asked if anyone looks at the other factors that negatively impact the operation like most bases being held to a minimum in PBS, open time limitations impacting trading flexibility or the horrible sequences. Our comments were noted with no real reply. We are truly at a loss on what else to say.
We will send additional base info in a future ORD Base Brief. This news had to stand alone.
New Hires
Please give a warm welcome to the nine (9) new hire Flight Attendants reporting to ORD in December! 183 Flight Attendants are reporting systemwide from Class 2021-1 and 2021-2. We hope to see many more in the upcoming months.
Staffing
Systemwide Reserve percentage is 26.0%. 546 total Reserves in ORD (25.5%).
The expected line average at PBS opening is 81.0. This is MUCH higher than we like, however, it does match the system number.
Allocations
We could not find any noticeable improvements in sequences month over month. It was reported that, unlike previous bottom-heavy December schedules, the flying is supposed to be relatively flat first half into the second. Flying in the first half will be fragmented due to daily pulldowns.
ODAN starts per day decreased to 3.9 versus November at 10.9.
Please be kind to each other. Stay safe out there!
