Update: Holiday Peak and Perfect Attendance Payments
On November 4th, 2021, APFA entered into a Letter of Agreement with American Airlines that offers additional pay incentives when working during holiday peak periods. For APFA, the intent of the LOA is an acknowledgment of everything our Flight Attendants have endured over the past two years: mental health issues, increased stress levels, strains on family and personal relationships, and exposures to COVID-19, to name a few.
As the LOA was negotiated, APFA pushed to allow more removal codes to qualify for the perfect attendance portion of the incentive. APFA has always believed that Flight Attendants removed for Military, Jury Duty, Bereavement, COVID-19 Pandemic, and Special Assignment Leaves should qualify for the payments. During the LOA negotiations, management stood their ground and would only allow those with vacation and critical incident safety debriefs (CISD) to qualify.
This week, management informed APFA that they will now allow Special Assignment (SA) removals to qualify for the 300% perfect attendance incentive. Management has changed the intent of the LOA mid-stream without approaching APFA to re-negotiate the terms of the agreement.
Our work lives have been in upheaval for the past two years, and management is not recognizing your sacrifices fully.
APFA Leadership is more than happy to sit down with American management to revisit the LOA and allow more removals to be eligible for the incentive, since they have violated the agreement’s intent by allowing SA removals and no others.
In Solidarity,
APFA Base and National Leadership
