January 2022 PHL Staffing and Allocations
We are still waiting on the much-needed improvements to our sequences. Our sit times have not improved, nor has the long duty day followed by a short layover. We continue to complain about the sequence construction, but nothing is improving.
We do have a small increase in block hours for January. We will be operating DUB, LHR, and ZRH daily in January. LHR will be a three-day trip.
LRD is now open. It is showing 455 reserves. This includes new hires from classes 21-01, 02, and 03. It does not include classes 21-04, 05, and 06. We have 65 new hires from those three classes. Our Reserve number with the 65 will be 520 for January. To say I am unhappy is an understatement. The company is doing what they always do which is to stockpile reserves to ensure they have enough coverage for the first week.
PHL’s opening line average is projected at 81.1, which is absurd. APFA Leadership asked the company to reopen vacation buyback to help lower the line averages, and they agreed. Vacation buyback for January 2022 has been re-opened and will close on December 7th, at 1200CT.
We have seen a required minimum of 70 hours starting at very high seniorities. A few months, we have seen this minimum start with the number one bidder. We have also seen double minimum constraints with a 70-hour min and then later down the bid run a 78-hour min kicked in. This is problematic for a lot of reasons. People who want to fly low are being held to a 70-hour minimum. To protect yourself from an LN bid award, be sure to open up your bid in later layers and be sure to bid enough times. Always check your layer tab to see how many bids you have entered. PHL BCR John Pratt is available to help review your bids and answer any questions you may have. You can email John at [email protected], or call him at 302-396-9434.
PBS bidding will open on December 10th at Noon (CT). John will be hosting a live Reserve PBS bidding town hall on December 12th at 4 pm and again on the 13th at 10 am. More information as well as call-in information will be sent closer to the event.
APFA has two surveys out for membership feedback. Please take the time to complete the surveys. The surveys are on the APFA website, and you will need log-in credentials. If you do not have them, please call the APFA Membership department at (817) 540-0108, ext. 8153, or [email protected].
