Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today, we remember the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and we honor his life and legacy as a civil rights activist using civil disobedience as a non-violent approach to effect change. Dr. King succeeded in pointing out the inequalities of segregation while stopping short of calling for violent confrontation, allowing for a middle-of-the-road reformation of civil rights.
Dr. King’s vision of inclusivity and core principles of equality still resonates today as we continue the fight for equality through action.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. The beauty of nonviolence is that in its own way and in its own time it seeks to break the chain reaction of evil” ~Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
