5G C-Band Network Update #2
Last night, the FAA disclosed that 5G C-band towers would not be activated within a 3-mile radius of 80+ airports. A list of those airports has not yet been made public. This means that there will be very minimal operational impact if any. It is important to note that some regional carriers are still experiencing a significant impact on their operations, so commuters should be mindful when making their arrangements.
For the most up-to-date information on 5G and its potential impact on our operation, the company has created a dedicated 5G page on Jetnet. The FAA also has a 5G site that breaks down 5G and how it affects aviation.
Keep in mind that the restrictions put in effect by the FAA were intended to maintain the highest standard of safety, and though adhering to the restrictions might have caused operational issues, the safety of operating under those restrictions was not in question.
Though we now have some operational relief, the circumstances surrounding 5G C-band implementation remain fluid. APFA will continue to work in partnership with APA, the company, and the FAA to minimize disruptions to the operation and ensure nothing less than the highest level of safety.
In Solidarity,
