Discontinuing Courtesy Calls for Reserves
Starting Monday, May 2, 2022, Crew Scheduling will no longer make non-contractual, courtesy calls for Reserve assignments. We want to ensure you have a firm understanding of what this change means going forward.
- ROTA runs once daily and processes awards/assignments for the next day
- ROTA is contractually required to process awards/assignments by 1930 HBT
- Sequence or standby awards/assignments made by ROTA must be acknowledged by 2230 HBT (JCBA 12.J.4.)
- You may acknowledge your assignment on Crew Portal or on Mobile CCI
- If you are on a sequence or standby, you are required to acknowledge your assignment within one hour of release from duty
- You do not need to acknowledge RAP assignments.
- ROTD – Awards or assignments processed after ROTA, but before the start of your RAP
- Awards/assignments made after ROTA, but before the start of your RAP, must be acknowledged no later than the start of your RAP. You are required to check for an assignment at the beginning of your RAP (JCBA 12.N.1.)
- Exception to 12.N.1: if your RAP starts before 0500 HBT, you are not required to check for an assignment at the beginning of your RAP. You will not be called between 0000 and 0500 HBT unless it is necessary to prevent a delay or cancellation (JCBA 12.N.4.)
- For RAPs that begin prior to 0500:
If you notice an award/assignment has been placed on your schedule and would like to avoid receiving a phone call, you can call crew scheduling to acknowledge your award/assignment via positive contact initiated by you. Otherwise, crew scheduling will still call you to inform you of your award/assignment up until the end of your RAP.
- ROTD – Awards or assignments placed on your schedule after the start of your RAP
- Crew Scheduling is required to call you (JCBA 12.N.4.). They must call both numbers if you have more than one listed. If you do not answer the call, you have 15 minutes to return the call or electronically acknowledge the award/assignment.
- If you notice an award/assignment has been placed on your schedule AFTER your RAP has started and would like to avoid receiving a phone call as early as 0500, you can call crew scheduling to acknowledge your award/assignment via positive contact initiated by you.
The temporary practice of making courtesy calls began during Flight Attendant Operational Integration (FOI) for the transition to the new ROTA/ROTD system. The goal was to avoid an inadvertent missed trip for not acknowledging an assignment. We’ve been in discussions with the company on this transition since last fall. We want to emphasize that Crew Scheduling will continue to make positive contact with Reserve Flight Attendants when contractually required per JCBA Section 12 – Reserve Duty.
