Probationary Flight Attendants and Union Representation
APFA Membership for new hire Flight Attendants begins on their date of hire. Management may not deny Union representation to a probationary Flight Attendant.
During the first one hundred and eighty (180) days of service with the Company, a Flight Attendant is subject to probation. It is important to note that although a Flight Attendant is on probation, she/he is a dues-paying member of APFA and is entitled to Union representation. Union Membership is mandatory for your employment with American Airlines (JCBA Section 35.A.).
Per the APFA Policy Manual Section 2.E.:
NEW / PROBATIONARY FLIGHT ATTENDANTS
- Probationary Flight Attendants shall be entitled to the rights, privileges, duties, and responsibilities of any other Flight Attendant, to the extent permitted under the Collective Bargaining Agreement or Company policy as applicable.
Whether you are a probationary Flight Attendant or a forty-year Flight Attendant needing APFA representation, please do not hesitate to contact one of your Base Representatives.
