Pursers: Required Aircraft & Service Training
On Friday, the Company sent out a CCI message announcing Purser only 787 and 777 equipment qualification training classes starting in September and continuing through December.
The goal of these classes is to ensure Pursers have access to the necessary training to meet the contractual requirement in JCBA Section 14.L.3-4 to complete all required training specific to IPD flying. This includes 787 and 777 aircraft, as well as IFS and AIFS (currently DFW and LAX-based pursers only) service training.
Many Pursers have been bid denied and forced to fly purser trips, while Flight Attendants junior to them are skipped over because they don’t hold the required equipment and/or service qualifications.
The bidding window to ballot for September equipment and service training opened on August 1st at Noon (CT) and will close on August 6th at Noon (CT). Awards will be visible by August 9th at Noon (CT).
Please note: Due to legalities, some classes may be scheduled as a two-day event to allow for travel to base the day following the training date.
To access the ballot for Purser only classes, follow this path: Flight Service Website > Training > Under Ballots & Assignments, select the SEP 2022 Required Purser Only 777/787/IFS Training Ballot. If you prefer to attend a Standard RBEST training class, select the SEP 2022 RBEST Training Ballot.
The Company may draft Pursers to fill the Purser only classes, assigning in inverse seniority order using the systemwide pool of Pursers who require training.
The deadline to meet these training requirements is March 1, 2023. Pursers at all bases who have not completed the required training by that date may lose their Purser qualification.
If you are not sure whether you are qualified on the 787 and 777, your training record is maintained on your HI*9 in DECS. IFS and AIFS training is recorded with special training completions on your HI22 in DECS (see below example).
