Removals From Rescheduled Sequences

Last month the National Officers, Executive Committee and Base Presidents sent out a hotline addressing, among other things, the abrupt cancellation of hundreds of flights in August. While the Letter of Agreement announced in the hotline addresses pay protections for certain full sequence cancellations, these special pay protections don’t extend to the reschedules that have impacted over 1500 Flight Attendant sequences. Only the relevant JCBA pay protections would apply to these rescheduled sequences.

Per 10.J.2.b, if the adjustment to your trip occurs up to three (3) days prior to origination, resulting in the sequence operating to different city pairs, layover cities, or causes it to operate on additional days or to not operate on a day(s), you are not required to accept such sequence and may notify Crew Scheduling you are coming off the trip. In this scenario, the Lineholder forfeits all applicable pay protection for that sequence.

Q:  If I choose to be removed from a sequence utilizing the contractual provisions in 10.J.2.b, may I pick up other flying?

A:  Yes. You may use TTS, UBL or ETB to pick up replacement flying as there is no pay protection associated with removal from the trip.

If you choose to stay on the rescheduled sequence(s), you will be pay protected to the original value of the trip, excluding cancelled segments. Note: JCBA 10.J.10 provides pay protection if a segment is flown by another crew. Additionally, JCBA 11.D provides for duty period minimums and trip rigs.

Here are some additional reminders about cancellations, reschedules and pay protections:

XR-coded removals: all or part of your trip is cancelled and flown by a substitute crew. The pay protection for XR cancellations/removals is added at close out.

LS-coded removals: Last Series/Last Sequence removals are pay protected per JCBA 10.L.

XI-coded removals: this indicates a full sequence cancellation and no pay protection applies, except as negotiated in the pay protection agreement outlined in the Letter of Agreement.

Important reminder: If you are picking up a trip(s) over any calendar day that contains pay protection, you should only pick up time from TTS/UBL. Picking up from ETB over a calendar day with pay protection will negate the pay protection, except as negotiated in the pay protection agreement outlined in the July 2022 Letter of Agreement.
