September 2022 PHL Staffing and Allocations
The company reduced flying twice for August and again for September resulting in a reduction of block hours at each base. The total system block hours for August are 1,410,090, and September has 1,360,354, a reduction of 49,736 block hours.
In August, PHL had 123,659 block hours and our block hours for September are 121,669, which is a reduction of 1,990 block hours. PIT has 4,707 block hours for September.
Everyone is speculating on what is happening with PHL due to a recent news article. Maybe this will help put this into perspective. Of the large hub bases, PHL has seen the leastamount of block hour reduction for September.
CLT 4,895
DFW 18,209
LAX 3,877
LGA 2,752
MIA 6,985
ORD 5,213
PHL 1,990
A large chunk of that reduction is due to the suspension of MAD, which will end on September 5th. MAD is scheduled to resume on October 5th. We did ask why the route is being suspended for a month, and we were told it was due to 788 delivery delays. This is the only IPD route that has a change.
Our ODAN’s continue to rise and fall, and we will see a slight decrease in September. BOS, PWM, and PVD all operate daily. There are a few PIT and BUF sprinkled throughout the month. We do still have long redeyes, high-time one-day turns, and of course, they threw in quite a bit of four leg one days.
LRD is now open with a projection of 393 reserves. This number should reduce slightly based on the speakers that may be pulled up to cover speaker requirements.
The system line average is projected at 81.3 hours, and the reserve percentage systemwide is 20.8%. There will be no VLOAs offered for September.
Flight Attendant Hiring
American Airlines will graduate two classes at the end of September. PHL has not cleared the transfer list, so we will not be welcoming any new hires from these classes. We also didn’t clear our transfer list for October, which means we will most likely not see any new hires until November at the earliest if we clear our transfer list.
