APFA PHX Base Hot Flash
PHX Employee Parking
PHX employee parking is often a hot topic. However, over the last few days, the heat has been turned up over employee parking due to all the parking lots at PHX Sky Harbor near or at maximum capacity.
JCBA Section 4.D. states: “All Flight Attendants, local based and commuting, shall receive a Company paid parking permit at such Flight Attendant’s base.” American Airlines is limited in what it can provide based on the rules of each airport in our system.
The 44th Street Employee Lot is American Airlines employees’ main paid parking permit in Phoenix. For those who park at West Economy (formerly known as Terminal 2 parking) and Terminal 4 rooftop parkers, those options are at the discretion of the City of Phoenix, not American Airlines. Should the PHX Airport Authority decide those alternative options are more of a hassle than they are worth, they can eliminate such options with little to no notice. Unfortunately, all employee parking could be relocated to the 44th Street Employee Lot. This would affect not only Flight Attendants but every employee within our airline. It could also jeopardize the current discounts we receive at both the East Economy and Terminal 4 garages.
As Flight Attendants, we are responsible for reporting to work on time. However, holiday weekends, road closures, increases in passenger traffic due to fall breaks, etc., can cause a delay in reporting on time. Professional, helpful feedback is needed when dealing with parking issues. In PHX, our Flight Service Parking Liaison is Katie Schoenfelder. She can be reached at 480-693-3028 or [email protected]. Don’t hesitate to contact Katie if you were denied parking in your assigned employee lot.
In our opinion, the City of Phoenix Airport Authority does not have backup plans for when there is an increase in passenger traffic. We will ask about this in our upcoming meeting with PHX Base Management. If you cannot park in your assigned employee parking, a backup plan must be in place. That backup plan could be for every employee parking card to access the 44th Street Parking Lot. Knowing an alternate parking option and how to get there can be helpful. Finally, we would like to emphasize the importance of our PHX Flight Attendants continuing to have parking options. The increase in passenger traffic is excellent news for our base and the future of our airline. It substantiates our growth within our ranks.
We look forward to more growth and a positive future for Phoenix. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
