10.27.22 – APFA PHL Base Brief – A Message From Kim
Thursday, October 27, 2022
Dear Philadelphia Flight Attendants,
After many conversations and much consideration, I have been appointed to and accepted a position in the System Board of Adjustment (SBA) Department as an APFA Regional Representative. My position will have me working directly with Larry Salas, APFA National Vice President, and the six other regional representatives, preparing and presenting Flight Attendant cases before the System Board of Adjustment. This is a full-time position, and as a result, I will resign as your Base President effective October 31st, beginning my work as a Regional Representative on November 1st.
As many of you know, I have held an elected position representing Philadelphia since 2011 and held various positions on committees in Philadelphia since 2006. This was not an easy decision- this is all I have known for many years. It is scary to step out of that comfort zone. However there comes a time when you and others believe your history, knowledge, and experience are better utilized to benefit the greater good. The time to take that step forward is now.
Philadelphia Vice President Tracey Montanari will move up and fulfill the remainder of my term, ending on March 31st, 2023. She will appoint a Base Vice President to fulfill her term, ending March 31st, 2023. This move will not generate an election, as less than six months remain in the current election cycle. Base elections for the April 1st, 2023-March 31st, 2025, term will begin in December.
I want to thank the Philadelphia base for your support during my terms as your base president. I hope everyone will continue to support me in my new position, as I wouldn’t be here without the support of the base. For that, I am humbled. It has been my honor to represent the best base in the system for the last 13 years. I will still be representing our membership on a much broader scale in a different capacity. I will still be based in Philadelphia and will still fly when time permits.
In Solidarity,
Kim Kaswinkel
APFA PHL Base President
