2023 Annual Enrollment Cheat Sheet

2023 Annual Enrollment Checklist

Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA)

A Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA)) is a tax-advantaged account that you can use to pay for eligible out-of-pocket medical, prescription drug, dental and vision expenses for yourself and your eligible dependents. HCFSAs are available to all AA employees, except those enrolled in the Core medical option. However, you can even contribute to an HCFSA if you aren’t enrolled in any American medical option.

A Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA) allows you to contribute part of your paycheck on a pre-tax basis to pay for eligible health care expenses throughout the year. When you have an eligible health care expense that isn’t covered by insurance, you can pay with funds from your HCFSA.

You can contribute between $120 and $2,850 each year. Your contributions are deducted from your paycheck on a pretax basis throughout the year. The total amount you elect will be available to use from January 1 to December 31.

When you enroll in an HCFSA for the first time, you will receive a debit card to pay for eligible health care expenses. You may be asked to submit documentation for your expenses, so be sure to save all of your detailed receipts.

Please Note: While you were allowed to carryover any remaining balance from 2021 into 2022, there is a carryover limit from 2022 to 2023. You may only carryover up to $550 of any remaining funds at the end of 2022. For 2023 into 2024, you may only carryover up to $570 of the funds remaining at the end of the year.

You will also be able to pay for your eligible expenses out-of-pocket and submit a claim for reimbursement. Eligible HCFSA Expenses

American Airlines 401(k) Plan

Our new hire Flight Attendants can begin contributing to their 401(k) accounts as soon as they start flying at American. After one (1) year of service, the Company will contribute up to 5.5% of your eligible compensation.

American makes two types of contributions to APFA Flight Attendants:

  • Automatic 3.0%. As a Flight Attendant, you get this Company contribution automatically — even if you don’t contribute any of your own money to the 401(k) plan.
  • Up to 2.5% match. When you make pretax and/or Roth 401(k) contributions to the 401(k) plan, American will match your contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to 2.5% of your eligible compensation.

You can access your 401(k) account at any time through the Fidelity NetBenefits® website. Create an account, view your account balance, change your contribution amount, make investment exchanges and connect to resources that can help you make informed savings and investment decisions. You can also call Fidelity at 800-354-3412 to speak with dedicated service center representatives, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. (CT).

If you are married to someone else in the Company, you can enroll in medical, dental and vision coverage separately or as a dependent.

Be sure to compare costs — it will cost more to be enrolled as a dependent than if you enroll alone as an employee. If you’re already covered under your American spouse’s coverage and want to be covered as an employee instead, call the Benefits Service Center.

If you’re leaving the Company and are married, consider enrolling in your spouse’s plan, if available. In most cases, your termination of employment would be considered a qualifying life event, allowing your spouse to make changes to coverage mid-year.

If you don’t enroll, the majority of your 2022 benefits elections will carry over for 2023 (including added benefits) with the following exceptions:

  • You must set a new Health Savings Account (HSA) goal amount each year. You can also make changes to your goal amount anytime during the year.
  • You must re-enroll and make a new contribution election each year for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).

Once again, go to myenrollment.aa.com and click on “Enroll” to get started.

If you have questions, please call the American Airlines Benefits Service Center at 888-860-6178The service center is open until 8 pm (CT).
