Holiday Pay FAQ’s
Today, November 23rd, 2022, is the first holiday date that qualifies for the new Holiday Pay language in JCBA 3.J. This new language was negotiated earlier this year and was included in a Letter of Agreement (LOA) signed on July 27, 2022.
Going forward, the contract provides for a 100% incentive (pay-no-credit) paid on all hours flown (excluding premiums) on nine holiday dates in November, December, and January. The new terms replace the original JCBA language that only provided for a flat Holiday Pay of $75 on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
You will find answers below to some of the frequently asked questions we have recently received. In addition to the Q & A, we are linking the two prior hotlines we shared about the new Holiday Pay.
- The APFA Hotline dated July 29, 2022 announced the new Holiday Pay and includes a link to the Letter of Agreement.
- The APFA Hotline dated October 8, 2022 provided greater detail and included nine examples of how the pay will apply in various scenarios.

Q: Why are the paid holidays different than the attendance critical periods?
A: Paid holidays are completely separate from management’s Attendance Policy. This new Holiday Pay incentive is provided for in the JCBA. Critical periods associated with attendance and banked points are Company policy. Management has not communicated a change to the attendance policy.

Q: Is the Holiday Pay agreement offered to the pilots better than what we negotiated?
A: The Holiday Pay negotiated in the July Letter of Agreement is similar to what pilots were offered. In fact, while ours includes all hours flown in a leg touching the holiday, the agreement for pilots stops at midnight of the holiday.

Q: When will I be paid the Holiday Pay?
A: Holiday Pay will be paid as soon as practicable until programming is in place to pay it in the normal pay cycle. We have reached out to the company for an update on this programming. Management is in the process of programming Holiday pay and expects this to be completed early next year. Until then, the company has committed to a manual process for payment of the Holiday Pay.
