2.04.23 – DFW Weather Event: A Message of Thanks
Saturday, February 4, 2023
Hello Everyone,
It was another challenging week as snow, sleet, and freezing rain impacted the DFW operation. As a result, Flight Attendants experienced sequence disruptions and long wait times to speak with crew tracking and the hotel/limo desk. Once again, Flight Attendants showed up and maintained professionalism despite continued challenges reaching the appropriate company departments for rescheduling and lodging information.
Looking at data snapshots from Monday, January 30th, through Thursday, February 2nd, traffic to the ‘On the Job’ section of the APFA website, calls to the APFA Contract and Scheduling desk, and message requests to APFA live chat show that Flight Attendants are using the tools available to ensure proper rescheduling per our contract, rather than being forced into illegal reschedules or modifications to your sequence that ignore our contractually negotiated order of assignment.
From Monday, January 30th, through Thursday, February 2nd:
- APFA Contract and Scheduling Representatives took 672 calls from Flight Attendants.
- Live Chat Representatives engaged in 573 conversations that resulted in 8,441 messages.
- APFA DFW Base Leadership answered over 305 calls from Flight Attendants.
Flight Attendants reached out to APFA to hold crew tracking accountable. The majority of violations, many of which were resolved, included:
- Assigning inbound line holders additional flying.
- Failing to notify Flight Attendants of their rescheduled flying within the contractual time parameters following a disruption as outlined in sections 10.J.3 and 10.J.4.
- Failing to make positive contact with Flight Attendants for a reschedule.
- Failing to make every effort to schedule Flight Attendants to arrive back in their crew base no later than the time they were originally scheduled to return, violating section 10.J.7.
Thank you for knowing your contract, reaching out with questions to APFA Representatives, and utilizing the new ‘On the Job’ website page to arm yourselves with the contractual knowledge to ensure proper reschedules.Â
Thank you to all of our Contract and Scheduling Representatives, Hotel Representatives, and Base Representatives across the system who worked around the clock to ensure proper rescheduling.
Systemwide Picketing
On January 24th, hundreds of Flight Attendants systemwide showed up for another successful picketing event. Flight Attendants are ready for improvements to compensation, scheduling flexibility, and overall work/life balance.
Our message that we are unified and committed to securing a Contract that we deserve is not falling on deaf ears- various news outlets were present across the system. APFA’s Instagram account engagements on the day of the picket exceeded 55,000.
Thank you to everyone who has participated in our days of ACTION and to our Sibling Unions who showed up in a display of industry-wide solidarity.
Stay tuned for more days of ACTION ahead!
In Solidarity,
