APFA EAP Critical Incident Response Program (CIRP)

As stated in a previous hotline, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Professional Standards, and the Critical Incident Response Program (CIRP) (formerly known as the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT)), will soon be one group working collaboratively to offer seamless support for Flight Attendants.

In October of 2022, your APFA Base Leadership selected two volunteers from each base to attend a four-day extensive classroom training focused on EAP service delivery and Professional Standards conflict resolution in the workplace. Future trainings will be held as the program grows.

Last week, your trained APFA EAP Peer Support Representatives attended another three-day intensive training, Critical Incident Response, conducted by Dr. Tania Glen, PsyD, LCSW. Upon completing their training, they received a certificate from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF).

Beginning March 1, 2023, your trained APFA EAP Peer Support Representatives will be responding to all base critical incidents by monitoring the CERS reports sent to the company. These CERS reports will be sent to the APFA Safety & Security Department, which will automatically be forwarded to the affected base.

Where can I find information on critical incidents in our current contract?

JCBA Section 34.H protects you if one of these events takes place during your sequence. APFA EAP will follow the JCBA language.

What happens if an incident occurs, but does not fall into a category listed in our JCBA?

There are times that neither APFA nor the company receives notification of an incident because the incident may not fall into one of the categories listed in the JCBA.

In this situation, please either call directly into the APFA EAP helpline at (833) 214-2002, or contact your Base President.

How do I reach an APFA EAP Peer Support Representative?

A Peer Support Representative may be reached by calling the APFA EAP Helpline at (833) 214-2002, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A list of APFA EAP Base Representatives may be found here.
