A Celebration of Life for Mark McWhirter
April 2023 Staffing and Allocations
On Friday, March 3, 2023, APFA Base representation had the monthly staffing and allocations call with the Company. On this call for PHX were Robin Agee and Secorra Flowers.
For April, PHX has the highest percentage of Reserves at 23.1%, with CLT at 22.2%. LAX was slightly behind at 21.4%, and DFW at 20.5%. This is not acceptable. Higher Reserve numbers require higher line averages for Lineholders, which hinders flexibility. We asked the Reserve numbers to be lowered to match November’s percentage of 19.4%, citing the lower absenteeism numbers being directly related to the lower Reserve percentages. The Company told us that as long as our Reserve absenteeism remains above 30% daily, the Company will not reduce the Reserve percentage, nor will PHX receive more International Premium Destination (IPD) flying.
As they did at all bases, our flight hours will increase for April. We had 60,990 flight hours in March, and in April, we will have 66,295. This is an increase of 5,305 flight hours. The percentage of 1-day trips will increase by 3% in April to 28%. 2-days will remain the same at 34% of our flying. There will be a decrease in 3-day trips to 34 %, and our 4-day trips will stay at 3%, with the majority commutable. ODANs will decrease slightly from 13 to 11.7. The majority will have 8 to 9 hours on the ground.
Secorra and I agree that while there is room for improvement in our sequences, we see improvement from previous months. Although we still see longer than desired sit times in CLT, DFW, and MIA around the 3-hour mark. This is due to aircraft swaps mid-sequence that could also require concourse change.
Phoenix Open House – Wednesday, March 8, 2023
Because our open house was very popular in February, Flight Service and your APFA leadership would like to continue sharing knowledge monthly. Please join Flight Service and your APFA Base Leadership for an Open House on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, upstairs in the crew room. (Above B6).
The Open House will start at 10:00 am and end at 2:00 pm. We will have APFA BCRs to answer questions regarding Bidding, DECs, FOS, and any other pertinent issues.
PHX Flight Service will be there to help with DECS, FOS and navigating the Flight Service website on Jetnet. They will also discuss and answer questions regarding the ConnectMe App, the new door closure procedure being implemented in April, and what the 3 D’s mean (D-10, D-5, D-0). They will also discuss introducing the Dine on Demand service on our LHR route.
Pretzels and popcorn will be offered during the open house. As an added incentive, the Advantage Crew Cash Team will be there with their wheel! Spin and Win! We hope to see many of you in the crew room!
