National Alcohol Awareness Month
April is National Alcohol Awareness Month. Drinking in moderation is fine, but what is “moderation?”
What is Excessive Drinking?
Excessive drinking includes binge drinking and heavy drinking.
Alcohol contributes to more than 200 health conditions and about 140,000 deaths in the US each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in six adults in the U.S. binge drinks, with 25% doing so at least weekly.
April is National Alcohol Awareness Month, a time to increase your awareness about alcohol abuse and alcoholism and recognize these disorders, which are treatable. If you or a family member are concerned about drinking, you have several resources for a confidential conversation.
APFA EAP is a confidential program. Visit the APFA Employee Assistance Program webpage to locate a trained APFA EAP committee member in your base. You may also call the APFA EAP helpline at 833-214-2002, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to connect with a trained base APFA EAP committee member.
Another confidential resource is the Flight Attendant Drug and Alcohol Program (FADAP). You can visit the webpage or call the FADAPÂ 24/7 helpline at 855-333-2327 to connect with a Flight Attendant peer.
