5.08.23 – APFA BOS Base Brief – May 8, 2023
Monday, May 8, 2023
Hello Boston! Spring is finally here. Warmer temperatures are upon us, and the sun stays out longer each day. We are excited to see that Boston continues to receive new hires from the 2023 training program.
Here are some interesting facts about our base and our growth over the last year.
- 216 Boston Flight Attendants were hired in the last 12 months
- 699 Flight Attendants are based in Boston
- 42% of our base has less than 5 years of seniority
10-hour Minimum Rest/8 Hours “Behind the Door”
With the recent implementation of the 10-hour minimum rest rule, we have seen an increased number of questions about domestic layover rest. The 10-hour rest rule is from release to report. At no time are you allowed to drop below this. If you have less than 10 hours of rest from release to report, this should be automatically adjusted by Crew Tracking. If it is not, please give them a call to update accordingly. In addition to the 10-hour rest rule, we are still contractually afforded 8 hours of rest “behind the door” (JCBA Section 11.J.1). If you arrive at your hotel and find that you will have less than 8 hours of rest “behind the door,” please get in touch with Crew Tracking.
Contract Action Team Terminal Walk
The Boston Contract Action Team will be having a negotiations terminal walk on May 19th from 0600 to 1330. This is your chance to ask questions about negotiations, hear about the latest negations update, and grab a red lanyard/union pin.
EFB Compliance
We have started to see an increase in performance events being issued to Flight Attendants because of their EFB being out of compliance. The company has done a terrible job at explaining the process to keep the EFB up to date, and has issued incredibly vague CCI messages that only cause additional confusion.
The three components of maintaining an up to date EFB:
- iOS – Current software updates
- Comply365 – Current version
- Comply365 – Synced
The company has communicated that Flight Attendants should sync Comply365 before each sequence. iOS software and Comply365 application updates are less frequent and are communicated via High Priority CCI. It is recommended that you verify all three components prior to each sequence. Please refer to the April 13, 2023, APFA Hotline for additional guidance on updating your iPhone EFB.
