American Airlines: Where is Your Accountability?

A battle with breast cancer is a journey no one wants to take. When Jeannine, a 23-year Flight Attendant, was fighting cancer, she also had to battle for her job.

This conscientious Flight Attendant filed her paperwork and stayed in touch with management, calling repeatedly to ensure her employment stayed on track. When Jeannine met the attendance flight service manager (AFSM) in person, Jeannine was told that she was under investigation for FMLA fraud. That same manager questioned why Jeannine would have breast reconstruction surgery, calling the surgery “elective.”

Whether it’s something life-changing like cancer or an everyday issue like points for Flight Attendants who show up on time, where is the accountability on the part of American Airlines? When will our AFSMs focus on handing out respect before they hand out points?

American Airlines Inflight department, it’s time to give your draconian, impersonal attendance policy another look.
