6.16.23 – American Airlines Flight Attendants: Treated Like “Just a Number”
American Airlines Flight Attendants:
Treated Like “Just a Number”
Friday, June 16, 2023
Melanie has been flying with American Airlines for 36 years. A conscientious and organized Flight Attendant, she arrives early to get through security and to her gate on time, every time.
Then, her attendance manager (AFSM) emailed Melanie, saying she would be handed a point for being late.
Upon calling her Union, Melanie learned that this has happened to many other Flight Attendants, too – employees who are responsible about meeting their obligation to be at work on time and doing so professionally, only to be treated like children.
“We used to have a relationship with our supervisors and now, we’re just a number,” Melanie says.
When will the negativity stop? When will the culture of respect between management and Flight Attendants return to American Airlines?
The rigid and impersonal attendance flight service management program at American Airlines makes Flight Attendants feel like just a number and treats hard-working employees like children.
