6.29.23 – APFA BOS Base Brief: MESTL Update
MESTL Update – Joint Union Letter to Massachusetts Attorney General
Thursday, June 29, 2023
It has been three weeks since the Massachusetts Earned Sick Time Law (MESTL) decision was handed down, and it took American Airlines less than a week to further reduce its employees to just a number.
Since the MESTL decision was handed down, Boston APFA has been working with the APFA National Officers and the APFA Legal department to ensure all options are explored to appeal the MESTL decision. Ultimately, the decision on whether to appeal or not is up to the Massachusetts Attorney General. That’s why on June 8th we issued a Call to Action urging all Boston Flight Attendants to participate in the one-click email campaign so that the Attorney General heard from our membership. Since then, we have been working in conjunction with multiple Unions in Boston, affected by the court ruling.
On June 28th, we sent a joint letter from five Boston Unions to Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell. All five Unions are urging her to do the right thing-Â appeal the court’s decision. At this time, we do not know whether the Attorney General intends to appeal the decision, but we have made it 100% clear, Massachusetts airline employees SHOULD have access to the same benefits as all other Massachusetts employees.
APFA is committed to fighting this court ruling and protecting workers’ rights. As more information regarding the potential appeal becomes available, we will keep the Boston membership updated.
Click here to help us keep the pressure on by continuing to send letters to the Massachusetts Attorney General
