7.05.23 – APFA BOS Base Brief: MESTL Update- July 5, 2023
MESTL Update
Wednesday, July 5, 2023
Devyn and I were on a conference call with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and other AA BOS Union leaders on Friday, June 30, 2023. Each Union was given the opportunity to express concerns for their members and implore the AG’s office to appeal. Today we received official email notification from the AG’s Office. Regrettably, they will not be appealing the District Court’s ruling regarding the Mass Earned Sick Time Law. This was not something that they took lightly, as there were considerations on both sides that they had to make. The AG’s Office has been very transparent with us. An appeal of this decision would likely result in the same outcome, and the risk of losing the appeal could result in massive ramifications across the country. To put it plainly, losing the appeal could result in all state law protections being null and void for Flight Attendants across the country.
While we are disappointed in this decision and know that AA Management did not paint a truthful picture of the BOS FA’s use of Earned Sick Time, we appreciate the efforts of our FAs to reach out to the AG’s office over the past month. Please know, the fight isn’t over- we must now shift our focus to getting a legislative change on the federal level. You have the commitment of both Devyn and I to continue forward.
