Bank Structure

• DFW will operate nine (9) banks in August with narrow-body cuts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Allocations Information:

Summer flying remains strong for August, with similar trip construction that mirrors June and July. August is the final month of the peak summer schedule, and flying will gradually decrease after the second schedule change on 08/15. The decrease in flying is minimal and will mainly affect NIPD and domestic frequencies. Block hours will continue to decrease into Labor Day and beyond in preparation for the “shoulder months” of September and October when the entire operation is pulled down before the next peak flying season. The good news about a pull-down in block hours is the company has indicated lower line averages and fewer reserves will be needed. We plan on holding the company accountable regarding its forecast for September and October. Trip construction has remained status quo for August, but that does not mean it is satisfactory. We realize that many domestic and NIPD pairings are difficult and undesirable. While statistical data is positive and has dramatically improved from years past, we advocate monthly for quality pairings that provide flexibility for our members and the opportunity to come to work and be productive, reducing the number of working days.

Base leadership addressed specific pairings for August that needed review and improvement. We also have made it clear to crew allocations that DFW flight attendants prefer two-leg turns, preferably higher in time and two-day pairings with a 1-3 or 3-1 flying pattern for double-up opportunities and commutability. A mix of short and long layovers is preferred to layovers with crew members away from base for two or three full days for minimal hours. We plan to meet with the allocations department to discuss monthly improvements in pairing construction.

DFW will receive 20 new hire flight attendants for August. New-hire flight attendants have played a significant part in our summer operation, with 635 NH FA reporting to DFW after graduation this year. The company’s strategy of having NH flying during the peak summer season was successful, and they plan a similar approach for the next peak holiday season in November and December. DFW received 395,936 block hours for August, an increase of 3,065 hours from July. STL satellite has 4,439 hours, whereas AUS will have 1,609 hours for August.
