Strike Vote Passes Overwhelmingly
Wednesday, August 30, 2023
99.47% of participating Flight Attendants voted yes to authorize a strike!
This vote authorizes APFA leadership to call a strike if contract talks do not yield significant improvements. Over 93% of eligible Flight Attendants participated in the vote.
“Today, we sent a clear message to American Airlines management: We are fired up and ready for a contract. They ignore this strike vote at their peril,”said APFA National President Julie Hedrick. “Our contributions to the success of American Airlines must be recognized and respected.”
This strike authorization vote represents an important step in our fight for an industry-leading agreement. Your negotiations team will return to the bargaining table with a clear message to management that American Airlines Flight Attendants are fired up and ready for our contract.
Management has yet to come to the bargaining table with the meaningful improvements we need to see to bring these negotiations to a close.
We cannot strike until released by the National Mediation Board and following a thirty-day cooling-off period. But if management continues proposing concessions coupled with meager improvements to compensation and retirement, we will not hesitate to request a release to strike if necessary.
Management now sees 26,000+ of us standing behind our Negotiating Committee. Thank you for taking the time to vote.
Thank you to our fellow American employees and Union Siblings across airlines, occupations, and industries who joined our picket lines today. The #SolidaritySummer continues!
