9.13.23 – APFA BOS Base Brief – September 2023 Update
September 2023 Update
Wednesday, September 13, 2023
After an eventful month, we wanted to share some helpful reminders. First and foremost, we express our sincere appreciation for the outstanding efforts of the Boston Contract Action team. Their dedication was pivotal in achieving an impressive 99.4% “Yes” vote on the Strike Authorization Vote. This result would not have been possible without the dedication of Anna, Will, and all the volunteers at the airport every day in August. This vote sends a clear message to management that we are fully prepared for the industry-leading contract that we have rightfully earned and deserve. To stay informed about the ongoing negotiations, please visit the APFA Negotiations page.
Mid-Sequence Rest for Domestic Sequences
As a reminder, with the FAR change implemented in December of 2022, our minimum layover rest for Domestic Sequences is 10 hours from release to report. You can verify this on your HI3. Additionally, we are still contractually (JCBA 11.J.1) given 8 hours ” behind the door.”
Rescheduling Language
Over the last few weeks, we have seen a significant increase in Flight Attendants being rescheduled due to delays and cancellations. The APFA website has numerous resources available to explain the rescheduling process and any applicable pay protections. Depending on where you are within your sequence (prior to report, prior to origination, after origination) this will impact how the rescheduling is handled. Rescheduling & Pay Protections
ATC Pay
We all agree that long delays due to weather, extending our already long duty days, can make for an exhausting trip. We want to ensure everyone understands when they are and are not eligible for ATC pay. If you are delayed from pushing back/taking off due to ATC holds at your destination, you are eligible for ATC pay, and your Captain should submit this. On the flip side, if you are delayed from pushing back from the gate due to ATC holds at your departure city, you are not eligible for ATC. However, depending on the situation, you may be eligible for holding pay (JCBA 3.D) If you believe you are eligible for ATC pay and are not given it, please contact your Flight Service Manager, who will work with the Chief Pilot to evaluate the situation.

Often, when you are caught in a situation or have questions, it is something that you need a quick response on. Multiple channels can be utilized to get the answer you need. When reaching out to BOS APFA, we ask that if we cannot take your call, please leave a voicemail for us. If texting us is your preferred way of communication, please send us a group text message so that we can address it and we can remain informed on the situation. In addition to Devyn and I, our Base Council Representative, Nicole Turnbull, is available to assist with contractual questions. Remember that the APFA Contract and Scheduling desk is available via phone or live chat for contractual or scheduling questions.
Professional Standards, EAP & CIRP
Heidi Visocchi will be taking a brief hiatus for approximately two months. She has been an instrumental part of the BOS APFA Team for the past year, and we appreciate her volunteer efforts. Over the summer, applications were accepted for additional volunteers. Once our new Rep has been trained in October, we will announce them to the base and provide their contact information. In the meantime, should you need to speak with a representative, please get in touch with BOS EAP Rep and FADAP Coordinator Deb McCormick (401) 225-1459 or APFA EAP (833) 214-2002. All calls are confidential, and a trained EAP peer representative is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
