Remembering our Los Angeles and Phoenix Coworkers
Yesterday was a tragic and painful day for our Membership– we mourn the loss of coworkers in Los Angeles and Phoenix and wish for a speedy recovery for a critically injured Los Angeles-based Flight Attendant.
Early yesterday, we learned of the loss of a Los Angeles-based coworker while on a layover in Philadelphia. While the facts are still unclear and the investigation continues, APFA has been and will remain in constant contact with Inflight.
American Airlines has a procedure when a Flight Attendant fails to report for a flight, and there was a failure in their process. While our priority will be support for the Flight Attendant crew who experienced such a profound loss, we have requested an inquiry into where the communication breakdown occurred and will hold American Airlines management accountable.
Yesterday’s tragic news in Philadelphia was compounded by the sudden loss of a beloved 37-year Phoenix-based Flight Attendant. Many of our coworkers are struggling to process this loss. APFA stands ready to assist loved ones and friends throughout the mourning process.
We also extend our good wishes and full support to the Los Angeles-based Flight Attendant who was critically injured in a single-engine plane crash yesterday in San Pedro, CA. APFA will offer assistance during recovery and do everything possible to make the road to recovery as smooth as possible.
As with any tragedy, our Employee Assistance Peer Support coworkers will be available to offer support as needed. Even if you are not directly affected, you may benefit from emotional support to cope with tragedy. In addition to support for you and your family, our APFA Employee Assistance Program offers assessments and referrals for those who need help. Emotional issues present at different times for different people, so please do not hesitate to contact our Peer Support Representatvies for assistance.
