Presidential Grievance Regarding AA’s Misapplication & Misinterpretation of JCBA Section 16.E:
Attire When Attending or Traveling To/From Training
The Company recently issued a CCI message stating that Flight Attendants may not wear shirts with slogans when deadheading to/from CQ or other training sessions or while attending training.
To be clear, a slogan is a distinctive motto, phrase, or statement that conveys a particular message or represents a brand. Our t-shirts display a logo, not a slogan.
The Company stated that the red APFA t-shirts (or any APFA t-shirts) were considered a distraction. APFA strongly disagrees with this decision. An APFA t-shirt serves as a symbol of our solidarity. It does not feature any distracting slogans.
We have a right as Union Members to wear t-shirts with our Union logo, and management is infringing on that right.
Instead of finalizing a contract that became amendable in 2019 and providing meaningful wage and work rule improvements for Flight Attendants now, management continues to disrespect their largest workgroup by threatening discipline for wearing a Union t-shirt while attending training.
Discussions over this issue with management have ceased, and we have filed a Presidential Grievance.
We will keep you updated on developments.
Continue to wear your red WAR pin, red lanyard, and bag tags until we achieve the tentative agreement we’ve earned.
In Solidarity,
Julie Hedrick
