Yesterday morning, all the crews abroad in TLV arrived safely in New York. The base vice president and members of local management met the crew and ensured that any immediate resources were available. I will ensure that these Flight Attendants who faced this difficult scenario, are provided all the necessary support.

As Flight Attendants, we are too often only seen through the lens of professionalism and frontline workers under challenging circumstances. These crews demonstrated yet again how important and intricate our roles are in aviation. I am grateful for their courage and professionalism and will remain available along with the base council to assist in any way we can.

The JFK- TLV departure is canceled through Friday, October 13th. I will do my absolute best to work directly with management to ensure that protections for the crew impacted and those who, because of these cancellations, are protected. The dynamics of losing a pairing like TLV present a significant hardship, and I understand that.

We have heard from several Flight Attendants with concerns about the impact cancellations will have on their pay. If your TLV trip has cancelled, you may find information on removal codes on the APFA website. Click this link to access the DECS Add/Removal Codes search tool on APFA.org. If you have been removed with a pay protected code, you may “double dip” over pay protected days using TTS/UBL (JCBA 10.E.3.m). Conducting ETB transactions over a day that is pay protected negates pay protections.

If the removal code indicates it is not a pay protected cancellation, you may pick up replacement flying. We recommend using TTS/UBL to make up the time as ETB transactions may jeopardize pay protections in the event APFA is able to secure additional protections.

Any applicable pay protections would be paid to the Flight Attendants on the trip at the time of the cancellation. If you drop your TLV trip before the cancellation occurs, you would have no claim for pay should the trip qualify for pay protections related to the cancellation.

Today, Nathanael and I will be welcoming New Hire Class 23-21, and thereafter headed to DFW for the Fall Board of Directors Meeting. During our absence, Cindi Simpson-Dunfee will oversee the immediate needs of the base. Nathanael will continue to work from DFW and field a limited number of base cases and issues. We will ensure that our emails have auto-responders with updated contact information for those who can assist you in our absence.
