10.13.23 – Layover Safety
Layover Safety
Friday, October 13, Â 2023
APFA has been made aware of global protest/demonstration alerts this weekend. Please expect larger crowds and perhaps road closures near and around layovers.
Actions to Take:
- Use local resources. Ask hotel personnel about safe neighborhoods for you to explore while on a layover.
- Practice situational awareness. Try to avoid texting or talking on the phone while walking. Check your surroundings for suspicious activity before taking pictures. Remain vigilant, maintain contact with a crewmember or family member. Apprise them of your whereabouts and expected return time.
- Exercise caution always:Â keep a low profile and stay together, with fellow crewmembers, when venturing away from the vicinity of the hotel.
- Consider going out with someone or keeping your fellow Flight Attendants aware of your plans should you need assistance.
- Monitor local media and communications for updates.
- Try to avoid consuming mixed drinks. Opt for beverages in a closed can or bottle. Never take a drink from someone you don’t know.
- Accessories such as watches, and jewelry might draw unwanted attention. High-cost PEDs should be kept out of sight as well.
- Keep your hotel key card in a secure location, and refrain from telling strangers the hotel name or your room number.
- Keep the Daily Ops phone number handy if you need assistance. Daily Operations: 682-315-7070 or 888-222-4737
- The APFA Safety and Security Department is open 24/7, and may be contacted at [email protected]
In general, it’s a good idea to keep your personal safety in mind during all aspects of any trip. For more guidance, you can review the Personal Safety section of your manual:
