APFA Issues Cease and Desist to Management Over Interference with Rights to Engage in Union Activity
Earlier this month, APFA filed a Presidential Grievance over management’s decision to disallow wearing APFA t-shirts with the Union logo when attending or traveling to/from training, violating JCBA 16.E.
This week, APFA issued a Cease and Desist, citing that American Airlines management has interfered with Flight Attendants’ right to engage in Union activity under the Railway Labor Act, and discriminated and retaliated against Flight Attendants based on their Union activity and affiliation.
Flight Attendants have never been restricted from wearing items displaying their Union logo at training, and there is no contractual language to support such a restriction. In fact, this discriminatory Flight Attendant treatment was not initiated until the day after APFA issued a Vote of No Confidence for Brady Byrnes, Senior Vice President of Inflight And Premium Guest Services.
In the Cease and Desist, APFA has asked that management cease:
- discriminating against Flight Attendants based on their Union affiliation;
- retaliating against Flight Attendants based on their Union affiliation;
- retaliating against Flight Attendants based on APFA’s October 11, 2023, Vote of No Confidence in Brady Brynes;
- interfering with Flight Attendants’ statutory right to engage in Union activity;
- intimidating and/or threatening Flight Attendants for showing support for their Union; and
- prohibiting Flight Attendants from wearing the traditional APFA logo shirt to training.
In the event AA refuses to cease and desist the above stated unlawful actions, APFA is prepared to take any and all necessary legal action to protect its members, including seeking to enjoin AA’s union-busting and anti-union animus conduct.
