Beginning January 1, 2024, bariatric, joint, and spine surgeries will be required to use SurgeryPlus, which appears to have a limited number of doctors within its network. The use of SurgeryPlus is not something negotiated by APFA or other Unions at American Airlines. We have contacted all Unions on property regarding this matter, and will update you once we know more.

We have heard from hundreds of Flight Attendants over the last few days regarding concerns with Surgery Plus. American Airlines entered into a relationship with SurgeryPlus to be a benefit to employees across the company, and it is quickly proving to be more of a penalty than a benefit.

APFA has been expressing concerns with management and requesting more information since the notification of the plan changes last month. We continue to push for resolution before the new plan year.
