Remembering Debbie Carvatta
Debbie passed away yesterday, November 24th. These past months, words of her health floated around. Some rumors, some facts. One thing remained true, those who knew her cared about her. Those who knew her well knew how private she was. Debbie showed her support in so many ways. She would attend our happy occasions: baby showers, weddings, parties. And she would attend our sad events, like the loss of a loved one. With her departure, we all feel the pain that comes from the loss of a life well lived.
Debbie may not have remembered names, but she remembered faces. It often shocked people when she would recall a brief encounter. One of her best traits was her fairness. She would listen to both sides and base her decisions on facts. That is in no way saying we always agreed but she always had Flight Attendants best interests at heart. Debbie Carvatta was one of the greatest advocates for Flight Attendants we have ever known. She proudly and fiercely spoke her mind while imparting her vast knowledge and words of wisdom.
If you worked a Thanksgiving Day or a Christmas Day, you would see Debbie passing out plates and thanking us for showing up on a holiday. Her office door remained open, and her phone remained on. When you needed her, she was there. She had a way of making those she met feel welcomed and heard. Her smile made you smile right along with her.
Our hearts go out to Debbie’s family. We have not received details from her family. If/when we do, we will write again. Until then, keep the happy memories alive in your hearts. She will surely be missed.
Our Chicago base will forever be known as ‘Carvatta Land’.
