A Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA) allows you to contribute part of your paycheck pre-tax to pay for eligible health care expenses throughout the year. The total annual amount you elect is available to use from January 1 through December 31 each year.

During its annual enrollment, American Airlines announced that it is transitioning the administrative services for its spending accounts from Alight Smart-Choice Accounts to Fidelity Investments, effective January 1, 2024.

For those with an HCFSA, please note the following:

• The total annual amount you elected for 2023 for your HCFSA will be available through December 31. Up to $570 of any remaining funds will roll over to 2024. You will forfeit the remaining funds over $570.
• For all things HCFSA-eligible, visit fsastore.com.
• On January 1, 2024, your Alight Smart-Choice debit card will be deactivated for those with remaining funds in their HCFSA account for 2023. For expenses incurred, you can pay an expense out of pocket, save your receipt, and submit for reimbursement to Alight Smart-Choice.
• New Fidelity debit cards are now arriving at your address on file. You can activate your card immediately for use on January 1, 2024, for your 2024 elected funds!
• On April 1, 2024, a blackout period will run through May 2, 2024, for any remaining Alight Smart-Choice HCFSA funds from 2023.
• On May 3, 2024, the blackout period will be completed, and 2023 carryover balances from Alight Smart-Choice will be available on your new Fidelity debit cards.
