12.31.23 – APFA PHL Base Brief – Happy New Year!
Sunday, December 31, 2023
There is always reflection at the end of the year with the hope that the following year will be brighter. One thing is certain: 2023 tested our PHL base and tested our Flight Attendants to new limits.
Operational uncertainties, catering snafus, and inconsistent direction from the highest levels of Inflight made each day a challenge for our crews. Despite those challenges, our PHL base rose above it.
We will not soon forget AA CEO Robert Isom receiving credit for seeing the company through the pandemic by receiving a bonus of just under $3 million. The credit goes to the front-line employees, especially the Flight Attendants, who spent the most time with our passengers. Robert Isom, Brady Byrnes, and the rest of this management team worked from home or were isolated in their offices while we were on the front lines during the pandemic.
This past year, we’ve seen all Flight Attendants systemwide come together in a sea of RED as we continue our fight for the contract we deserve. Management can hand out all the cookies they want. It will not temper our resolve to stand together in solidarity with each other and the entire labor community while continuing to fight for an industry-leading contract.
2023 brought our base sadness as we said goodbye to several co-workers who left us too soon. Losing co-workers is always painful. We see each other in the crew rooms, walking the terminals, and on our flights. The pain reaches another level when a flight returns to base minus a crew member.
We hold everyone who left us too soon, along with their friends and families, close to our hearts. They will NEVER be forgotten.
It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve our base, seeing us all rise above the daily obstacles and challenges faced with pride and professionalism.
As 2024 approaches, we will continue to stand in solidarity and show management that we are UNITED and LASER FOCUSED on achieving the industry-leading contract we deserve! We are, first and foremost, professionals, meeting the needs of our customers, regardless of the challenges management hands us.
Thank you for standing side by side with us. No matter what comes our way, WE ARE READY!
Always, PHL STRONG and PHL PROUD!
In Solidarity,
Tracey, John, and Hunter
